Making Time for Yourself & JORD Watch Giveaway
Last night I was flipping through the pages of my planner, scheduling the month ahead. As I was jotting down important dates and reminders, I realized how quickly the past year has gone by. I remember my grandmother once saying, time seems to speed up as you grow older. As a child, I didn’t understand that concept. I do now.
In our fast-paced society, there is increasing pressure to “maximize” our time. Of course, technology has contributed to this. We have a pressing need to answer every email as soon as it comes through and our phones are constantly buzzing with reminders of responsibilities. In this continuous cycle of multitasking and productivity, we can lose our mindfulness.
It’s easy to get caught up in the business of our daily routine— moving from one task to the next— without realizing days, weeks, and months are passing by. Yikes— that’s a scary thought, but true.
One of my New Year’s resolutions was to prioritize a few things that I was putting off until I “had the time.” At the top of that list was launching this blog. The truth is, I would never have “found the time,” so I decided to carve it out. I started with the goal of one blog post per week. Some weeks, I’ve exceeded that goal. Other weeks, I haven’t met it. But you know what? That’s okay with me. It’s about progress not perfection.
Since hitting publish on my first post in late February, I’ve connected with some pretty amazing people as a result and learned a lot about myself in the process. Connecting with you all on a weekly basis has brought me more joy than you know!
I’ve also been able to team up with some incredible brands. When JORD recently reached out to partner with me to do a giveaway, I was thrilled.
I fell in love with their handcrafted wood watches. Their designs offer a simple elegance. JORD watches are truly unique timepieces.
In this post, I’m wearing the Champagne and Zebra wood in the Frankie series. It matches with nearly everything in my wardrobe. The color scheme offers neutrality, but the wooden band adds such an interesting element. The watches are surprisingly light and look great worn alone or stacked with other bracelets.
Every time I glance down at my wrist, I’m reminded that time is a gift. While none of us can add hours to the day, we can choose how we spend the ones we’re given.
Is there anything you’ve been putting off?
Whether you want to travel somewhere new, start an exercise program or just want to create more down time for yourself, start taking steps toward those goals today.
What would you do if you had more free time? Write down all the activities that you want to begin or wish to do more of. After creating your wish list, rank each item.
Make a list of where you currently spend most of your time. Is there anything you can shift in your schedule? What items are less important on that list?
When scheduling, block similar tasks, appointments and errands together. This will save time, gas and sanity.
Think about delegating. What are you able to hand over to someone else to do?
Establish “musts,” in your schedule— think of these as non-negotiables. Whether that’s an hour in the morning for coffee and reflection, 30 minutes of daily yoga or 2-3 hours a week for a new hobby or home improvement. Heck, it could even be happy hour with the girls on a monthly basis! That sounds like a solid non-negotiable to me.
Ask your loved ones to hold you accountable. Telling your friends and family members about your “wish list” will help them realize where you are looking to devote more time. They may be able to help you accomplish these things and hold you accountable! Nothin’ like a good friend to help you get a grip.
I’ll leave you with a quote that my sister often shares: “Always find time for the things that make you feel happy to be alive.”
And science backs me up on this one. Research shows that to be productive (and more creative), you need time for recreation and relaxation. Burnout is real my friends. Ever notice how your best ideas are after a workout or perhaps in the shower? Yep-- point proven.
Now, hopefully you have a minute to scroll down and enter the awesome JORD giveaway at the end of this post. One lucky reader will win a $100 gift code to use on the JORD site. But, what’s amazing is that everyone who enters will receive a $25 consolation code to use on the site. JORD offers a sharp men’s line as well, so fellas— feel free to enter the giveaway.
Contest ends at 7/23/17 at 11:59 p.m. Good luck!
In this look, I paired my JORD watch with my favorite summer maxi dress, which is under $40.
