When it comes to creating an effortless wardrobe, sometimes it’s the simplest ideas that are the best. After all, classics have stood the test of time for a reason.
Regardless of the season, black is always in style. However, you don't want your outfit to look (or feel) too heavy in warmer-weather months. One way to wear black in spring and summer is to pair it with white. Crisp black-and-white ensembles are classic and chic. The high-contrast combo can be as formal or as laid-back as you like.
Whether it's prints, stripes or color blocking, working the monochrome look is so easy. In this look, I paired white skinny jeans with an asymmetrical black top. I added a pop of color with coral slingback heels.
Fashion is fun, and I always remind my readers to have fun with it! Notice styles that you are intrigued by and try them on, even if you don't think it will work on you. It's amazing how different a piece can look on the hanger. That was the case with this top, which took on a whole new life when I tried it on.
I keep an eye out for pieces that have interesting layers, designs and movement to them. I love creating a little drama with layers, whether it's in a maxi dress or blouse. This top from BCBG features beautiful draped detailing and an asymmetrical cut. Although it is a loose-fitting blouse, it is designed in such a way that still shows your shape. It's effortlessly stylish, and can be dressed up with a tight fitted skirt, such as BCBG's power skirt.
Pop of Color
Adding a bright color to your black and white ensemble will add interest to the look. I chose coral because it's one of my favorite colors for spring and summer. These heels add color, while still maintaining the elegance of the look. Electric blue and magenta also work great with a black and white combo.
When to Wear
Teaming black and white is a a high-contrast approach to creating an elegant look that can transition from day to night. This look is perfect for a night at the movies, dinner date or drinks with the girls.
I accessorized the outfit with a mix of metallic jewelry and a black patent leather clutch by Armani.
You may notice several of my posts feature white denim. White denim jeans are clean and crisp. They are a staple in my wardrobe all year, but especially in spring and summer. These jeans are by James Jeans, the style is Twiggy in Frost White. You can take a look at more James Jeans' styles on Amazon.
